MARINE ENGINES & LIVELIHOOD ASSISTANCE

The Provincial Government
of Negros Occidental, through the Provincial Environment
Management Office (PEMO), turned over four mechanical
shredders, 44 marine engines and a total of close to
P150,000 livelihood assistance to identified beneficiaries
during a simple ceremony led by Acting Gov. Isidro P. Zayco
at the Capitol yesterday.
PEM Officer Edwin Abanil said the provision of the shredders
is in support of the Solid Waste Management Program. Two of
these shredders were given to the Municipality of EB
Magalona and one each for the Cities of Talisay and
Escalante.
In line with the Marine Engine Swap to Mangrove
Reforestation and Protection (MES-MRPP) Project of the
province, 44 marine engines were distributed to identified
beneficiaries in the municipalities and cities of Victorias,
Sagay, Toboso, Silay, Pontevedra, Valladolid, Pulupandan,
Talisay, Hinobaan, Cauayan and Ilog.
A total of P147,500 worth of livelihood assistance was also
presented to three Integrated Social Forestry (ISF)
associations, namely Sitio Mambucog Fisherfolks
Multi-Purpose Cooperative with P30,000 check for the
Sustainable Alternative Livelihood Assistance Program for
Coastal Rehabilitation and Conservation (SALAP-CRC); Marcelo
Integrated Upland Farmers Association with P17, 500 check
for the Organic Coffee Growing with Cash Crops and Tuguisan
ISF Farmers Association, Inc. with P100,000 check for the
Potable Water System for Upland Communities.
Also present during the activity were Provincial Board
Members Nehemias dela Cruz and Patrick Lacson and EB
Magalona Mayor David Lacson, Valladolid Mayor Rommel Yogore,
Pontevedra Mayor Jose Maria Alonso, and Toboso Mayor Evello
