An
artificially inseminated cow at the Negros Occidental
Provincial Livestock Breeding Center and Dairy Farm
located in Brgy. La Granja, La Carlota City recently
produced twin male calves, the first occurrence of its
kind in the province.
The Artificial Insemination (AI) of large ruminants is
one of the ongoing projects of the Provincial Veterinary
Office (PVO) that is made available to Negrense farmers
since maintaining a pure dairy bull is costly, according
to Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena.
AI is done by trained technicians of the PVO and one of
its advantages is the prevention of the spread of
various diseases in the course of breeding.
Artificial Insemination is used in the breeding center
for the purpose of maximizing the breeding performance
of cows and for them to produce quality breeder
livestocks./Capitol News. |
