Members and officers of the Provincial Council for Women
(PCW) celebrated Women’s Day yesterday at the Mayfair
Plaza located along Lacson Street, with the theme,
“CEDAW ng Bayan: Yaman ng Kababaihan”.
CEDAW stands for Coalition
against the Exploitation and Discrimination Against
Women.
The celebration started with a caravan on the main
streets of Bacolod City and was followed by an opening
program that included messages and inputs from invited
guests namely, Negros Occ. Provincial Consultant Nestor
Bayona, Technical Education and Skills Development
Authority (TESDA) Provincial Director Yolanda Porschwitz,
Rosalie Espolong of the Dept. of Labor and Employment,
and Gerin Vergara of the Dept. of Trade and Industry.
Bayona who represented Gov. Joseph Marañon, said he
himself has a high regard for women as he assured the
PCW that whatever it will do for the good of women, it
will always get the support of the Provincial
Government.

Castro of Silay City said that the focus of their forum
is on economic empowerment. Referring to the theme of
the celebration, she said “yaman” does not only mean
money but it also refers to children, character, family,
organizations, etc. that is in every woman.
Afternoon sessions
included a sisterhood and solidarity program, crafts
