Calatrava Wins ‘Binalaybay’ Tilt

The Municipality of Calatrava tops the “Paindis-indis Sang Binalaybay” contest during the second day of the 20th Panaad sa Negros Festival at the Panaad Stadium, yesterday.

Oration Composer and Presenter Luz Leonor bested ten others with her piece entitled, “Kay Kita, Usa Ra” which talks about Calatrava’s finest delicacies, destinations and its locals.

John Rey Java of Himamaylan City bagged the 2nd place for “Organiko nga Pagpanguma Para sa Masulhay Kag Mainuswagon nga Probinsya”, while Edmar Villanueva of Silay City placed 3rd with his piece, “Panguma Organiko, Ginapabugal Ko”.

The winners received P15,000, P10,000 and P7,000 with trophy for the first, second and third place, respectively.

Consolation awards were given to Sagay City, Cadiz City, Cauayan, Bacolod City and Pulupandan who received P2,000 each.

Judging the contest were Resurrecion Hidalgo, Alain Russ Dimzon and Andy Guevarra.

OPA Conducts Forum on Organic Aquaculture

The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) conducted a forum on Organic Aquaculture during the second day of the 20th Panaad sa Negros Festival celebration, in line with Gov. Alfredo G. Marañon’s thrusts in Food Security and Agricultural Productivity, held at the Panaad Organic Village, yesterday.

Organic Aquaculture Guest Speaker Erwin Pador discussed the systems, purposes, benefits, problems and plans of the implementation of Organic Aquaculture in Negros.

OPA aims to establish Organic Aquaculture all over the province because of its ecological, social, economical advantages and practicality.

Organic Aquaculture has many advantages due to soil fertility management, breeding and selection under chemical and pesticide-free conditions as well as the use of biotechnology.

Businessmen, farmers, fishermen, hog raisers, government employees and students participated in the activity. */Capitol News

La Castellana’s Bailes de Luces Adjudged Best Festival Dance

The Bailes de Luces of the Municipality of La Castellana was adjudged “Best Festival Dance” during the 20th Panaad sa Negros Festival Dance Competition held at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City, yesterday.

Over 20 towns and municipalities all over the province participated in the competition, showcasing a five minute presentation of their respective festivals.

Bagging the second place is the Sinulog Festival of Kabankalan City while the Balbagan Festival of Binalbagan town placed third.

According to Best of Festival Dances chairman Rudy Reveche, the criteria for judging include Choreography, 30 percent; Performance, 30 percent; Theme/Concept,20 percent; Costume, 10 percent; Music, 5 percent and Hand Props, 5 percent.

The succeeding places were awarded to Silay City’s Kansilayan Festival and Talisay City’s Minulu-an Festival, respectively.

The judges of the competition were Carlou Bernaldez, Julius Martin Sollesta, Rommel Flogen, Tres Solis and Annie Sartorio. */Capitol News
