Newly elected barangay leaders from the LGUs of the Second, Third, and Fourth Districts of Negros Occidental attended the three-day Transformative Mediation Training Workshop for Newly Elected Barangay Leaders of Negros Occidental, held at Mambukal Convention Center in Murcia, that started yesterday (July 24).
The training-workshop, facilitated by the Provincial Planning and Development Office, aims to enhance the leadership skills of local officials and equip them with additional knowledge in handling and resolving conflicts effectively as neutral third parties in the barangays.
Gov. Bong Lacson said that since the barangay is operating at the local and grassroots level, the barangay officials are in the best position to deliver government programs and policies directly to their respective constituents, and they are also the frontliners of the Barangay Mediation and Justice System.
He also said that as the primary mediation body, the barangays and Lupon have both the responsibility and the opportunity to prevent conflicts from escalating and being brought to the courts for more adversarial proceedings.
“More than just settling disputes amicably, the Lupon must also strive to mend the relationships of its conflicted community members since we aspire not only the absence of conflict but, most importantly, the presence of harmony and understanding in the community,” he said.
Among the topics discussed at the activity were Introduction and Scope of Katarungang Pambarangay Law and Introduction to Mediation.
Ed Jalbuena of the Mediation Network, Inc. was among the resource persons at the activity.*#AbanseNegrense
