Negros Occidental Governor Bong Lacson committed to fully support the National Nutrition Council’s Dietary Supplementation Program dubbed as “Tutok Kainan”, and ensure its efficient and responsive implementation through effective local level actions.

The governor made his commitment during the ceremonial kick off of the activity held at the Negros Residences in Bacolod City, yesterday (April 7).

According to NNC Region VI, the program aims to serve as a platform for improving women’s nutrition through the provision of additional quality and nutritious food commodities to pregnant women in priority areas across the country.

It is also aimed at preventing stunting among children 0 – 23 months old by improving the quality and quantity of food and nutrient intake among nutritionally at risk pregnant women and children 6 – 23 months old.

Gov. Lacson said that Tutok Kainan is a headway towards the efforts of the government to end all forms of malnutrition in the country and to accomplish President Rodrigo Duterte’s commitment to accomplish zero-hunger by 2030.

Gov. Lacson thanked the National Nutrition Council for initiating the program and for crafting the National Food Policy.

The governor also led the distribution of enhanced Nutri-bun to nutritionally at-risk pregnant women, as part of the kick-off activity.

NNC Deputy Executive Director, Atty. Fayda Dumarpa; NNC Region VI Nutrition Program Coordinator Reginaldo Guillen; Negros Occ. Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Ernell Tumimbang; and Senior Agrarian Reform Program Officer Diona Molina of the Dept. of Agrarian Reform, joined the governor in expressing their commitment to the said nutrition program.
