Fifty punong barangays from the different LGUs of Negros Occidental completed the Certificate in Public Administration and Governance (CPAG) Scholarship Program and attended completion rites held at the University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos in Bacolod City last January 31, 2023.

The CPAG Program is one of the scholarship categories under the Provincial Government’s Negros Occ. Scholarship Program Division.

Governor Bong Lacson and UNO-R signed a Memorandum of Agreement for the said scholarship that aims to boost the managerial and leadership skills of local leaders, which is also in collaboration with the Negros Occ. SP-Committee on Barangay Affairs led by Board Member Pepello.

The scholarship also aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the theories and practices in public administration focusing on barangay governance.

Gov. Lacson said that given the vital role of the barangay in nation-building and in the achievement of collective goals as a province, it is necessary to empower and support the local officials.

He also thanked UNO-R for its cooperation and support of the provincial government’s scholarship program.Also present at the completion rites were LGU Mayors, NOSP Head, Karen Dinsay, UNO-R President Rev. Fr. Joel Alve, Vice President for Academic Research Rev. Fr. Romeo Ben Potencio Jr., and Graduate School Dean, Dr. Dennis Madrigal, among others.
