Governor Bong Lacson and the Negros Occidental Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO) spearheaded the launching of the Galing Pook Photo Exhibit Earth Conservation, Protection, and Rehabilitation (CPR) Campaign held at SM City Bacolod yesterday, April 22, 2022.

The governor was joined by Provincial Administrator, Atty. Rayfrando Diaz, PEM Officer Atty. Julie Ann Bedrio, Provincial Consultant Rafael Coscolluela, SM Mall Manager George Anthony Jardiolin, and Dr. Jose Rene Gayo and Dr. Emma Porio, members of the 2021 Galing Pook Awards National Selection Committee, among others.

Negros Occidental is a recipient of the Galing Pook Awards, which is one of the most sought-after and prestigious awards by local government units (LGUs) in the Philippines. Out of 206 submitted entries, the province bagged the award as one of the ten winners of 2022 Galing Pook Awards with its project entitled, “Network of Alliances for Coastal Conservation”.

The exhibit, which will run from April 22 – 30, 2022, features the winners of the Galing Pook Awards and aims to increase public awareness and inspire Negrenses to replicate the ten outstanding local governance programs of the winners.

“As we are celebrating Earth Day, today is an opportune time to be reminded that the movement to save the environment is a diverse social and political movement,” said Gov. Lacson.

He also said that the need for the recovery of the ecosystem that has been degraded and destroyed, and the conservation of those that are still intact has gone beyond the question of choice and has now become a necessity.

“We must espouse the just and sustainable management of resources and stewardship of the environment through changes, both in public policy and individual behavior,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Education and Advocacy Center for Environment (PEACE) as well as the Envi-talk Program of PEMO in CPSU Radyo Muscovado 100.5 Sweet FM, with CPSU President Dr. Aladino Moraca, were also launched as part of the activity.

The activity is also in celebration of the World Earth Day with the theme, “Invest in our planet”.
