Provincial COOP Month Culmination Held Today

PROVINCIAL COOP MONTH CULMINATION HELD

The Negros Occidental Provincial Cooperative Month culminated, today, in a program held at Negros Residences in Bacolod City.

The day’s event was attended by various cooperatives in the province.

The cooperative month celebration is aimed at empowering the cooperatives and highlighting their vital contribution to the province’s economic development.

Gov. Lacson said that as a united province, the goal is to strengthen cooperatives and enable them to provide quality financial and related services.

He also said that the basic element of development is an empowered people, and that cooperativism allows people to have stronger voices to advance their common interests.

“Let this assembly be an opportunity to celebrate the achievements we have done in the past, identify the areas where we can do better, and strengthen our resolve to do what is necessary to achieve our collective goal,” he said.

Joining the activity were Cooperative Development Authority Region VI Director Dr. Nora Patron who gave a video message; Negros Occ. Provincial Administrator, Atty. Rayfrando Diaz; Negros Occ. Provincial Cooperative Development Council chairperson, Raymund Gepitulan; Federation of Cooperatives of Negros Occidental (FOCONO) chairperson, Nelson Pailano; Rodelio Gasparillo of Land Bank of the Philippines; Office of the Provincial Agriculturist OIC, Dr. Dina Genzola; TLDC Program Manager, Gerard Tupas; and Carlo Acosido of the Provincial Planning and Development Office, among others.

The Cooperative Month is in accordance with the Presidential Proclamation No. 493 dated October 27, 2003. It is celebrated every month of October and aims to encourage public participation and awareness about cooperatives, as well as its importance in nation building and contributions to sustainable economic development.
