2ND DRRM SUMMIT HELD

A two-day 2nd Provincial DRRM Summit is held today at Seda Capitol Central in Bacolod City, which aims to discuss ideas, share best practices, and identify areas for growth in the field of disaster risk management.

LGU DRRM officers, representatives, and stakeholders attended the event, spearheaded by the Negros Occ. Provincial Disaster Management Program Division led by Irene Bel Ploteña.

Among the speakers at the event were Dr. Alfredo Mahar Francisco Lagmay of the UP Diliman Institute of Geological Sciences, and Dr. Gay Defiesta and Dr. Johnrev Guilaran of UP Visayas Division of Social Sciences, who talked on Shared Concerns of Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change, Assessing Social Vulnerability to Climate Change, and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support after Disasters.

Gov. Lacson said that the Province of Negros Occidental is committed to keeping abreast and adhering to science-based systems and technological tools and opportunities to effectively address disaster risk reduction and to protect and minimize the risk to responders.

He stressed knowledge is a fundamental measure of prevention; and through continued educational initiatives and outreach, the community will be able to make educated decisions and lessen their vulnerability.

Gov. Lacson also thanked the Office of the Civil Defense and all the agencies and stakeholders for their cooperation and commitment to mitigate disaster risk in the province.

The summit is also part of the National Disaster Resilience Month themed, “BIDAng Pilipino: Building Filipino Well-being Towards Disaster Resilience”.#AbanseNegrense
