Assistance to Distressed OFWs

More than 40 distressed overseas Filipino claimed their P5,000 financial assistance from the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental on April 18, 2023.

The recipients, who came from five municipalities and six cities of the province, are part of the second batch of beneficiaries under the Gender Responsive Intervention to COVID -19 and New Normal project funded by the 2021 Provincial Gender and Development budget.

The beneficiaries, accompanied by their respective Migrant Desk Officers and/or OFW Federation Presidents, came from the municipalities of E.B. Magalona, Murcia, Valladolid, Calatrava, and Hinoba-an, and from the cities of Sipalay, Kabankalan, Bago, Talisay, Escalante, and Victorias.

Twenty OFWs who are still to claim their financial assistance include those from Hinigaran and Sagay City.

Present during the turnover this morning were Marie June Castro, Executive Assistant and Action Officer of the Prov’l GAD Focal Point System; Salvacion Barrios, president of the OFW Negros Occidental Federation; April Joy Duran, Community Affairs Officer III and Migrant Resource Center staff; and disbursing officer Roxane Gajo of the Provincial Treasurer’s Office.
