SEARCH FOR FUTURE NEGROS CHESS MASTERS LAUNCHED

The Negros Occ. Provincial Sports Office spearheaded the launching of the “Search for Future Negros Chess Masters” in a province-wide tournament held at the Capitol Social Hall on Friday, July 15, 2022.

Around 50 chess players under 17 years old from different cities and municipalities of the province joined the event. Governor Lacson thanked the parents and guardians of the players and asked them to continue supporting their children.

He also reminded the chess players that education is important, and their main priority must be academics, then chess.

“We in the province will continue the grassroot development so that we will reach our goal of developing new chess masters from Negros Occidental,” said the governor in his message.

The top 3 winners of the 17-under category (girls) were Jamelin Ruth Lim, first; Jasmine Atienza, second; and Yzabella Noriel Nabor, third.

Meanwhile, top 3 winners for boys category were Karl Patrick Bardinas, first; Christian Pelione, second; and Einre Mar Abanco, third.

Gov. Lacson and Provincial Sports Coordinator, Anthony Carlo Agustin, awarded the top three winners with certificates and cash; Php 3,000.00, Php 2,000.00 and Php 1,000.00 respectively; the fourth up to tenth placers were given Php 500.00 each.

The second leg of the tournament will be held today, which will be joined by chess players under 12 years old.

The Provincial Government plans to conduct more training programs through sports clinics to train more aspiring home-grown athletes.
