18-DAY CAMPAIGN TO END VAW BEGINS TODAY

Governor Bong Lacson and Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer were in full support as the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental spearheaded the start of the 18-day campaign to end Violence Against Women (VAW), today.

The day’s activity started with the entrance parade and display of slogan posters, followed by the program held at the Capitol Social Hall, where participants expressed their messages of support and signed the pledge of commitment, in support to the cause for women.

The activity was attended by women supporters and stakeholders from the different LGUs of the province together with the officers and members of the Provincial Council for Women, Board Members Rita Gatuslao and Jose Benito Alonso, Provincial Administrator, Atty. Rayfrando Diaz, Executive Assistants to the Governor Charina Magallanes – Tan and Marie June Castro, and Capitol office heads and employees, who all wore orange shirt.

The Safe Space Ordinance was also signed during the program. Orange ribbons were also tied at the Capitol Lagoon fences, front of the Capitol Building, as part of the activity.

“Filipino women are among the best workers and leaders in the world, — disciplined, skilled, and intelligent, making them an indispensable force in the workplace and in whatever industry they are in,” said Gov. Lacson.

“As we seek to foster consciousness against this violation of the fundamental right of women to live a life free from violence, bear in mind that awareness-raising is a process; and that we need to remain patient, and at the same time, relentless in our cause for us to succeed,” he added.

The activity is also in line with the 2021 Observance of the National Consciousness Campaign for the Elimination of VAWC.
